A Lonely Place

“You have stayed long enough at this mountain.  Turn and set your journey…See, I have placed the land before you; go in and possess the land” Deuteronomy 1:6-8

Change is inevitable.  Each day changes into the next, each day to the next month then year.

Winter becomes spring, and spring becomes summer, and it changes to the fall.

These changes are such a part of our lives that we notice them little.

In our lives we have seasons of marriage, birthing, journeying, the burying.

With each of these seasons of life there are miniature seasons circling within; rings inside of rings, constantly turning.

Years ago God had me in a season of solitude.  He pulled me away from friends, and even most of my family as I worked through the lessons He would have me know about singleness, single-parenting, trust for finances, faith in His faithfulness.    I think there a very short list for those wishing to be in this season.

Right now I’m finding myself in a similar season.  He has pulled me back into a quiet place.   This is a place that is without planning events with friends, a place that is not in leadership, a place of solitude and, perhaps some sanctification.

I know my Lord well enough that if He has me is this quiet place then change is on the horizon, and this is how He gets me stocked-up for the journey.

The Lord kept the children of Israel in a season of being only with Him, to learn of him, to see him and to get ready to be His people in a promised land, before he brought them into the promise.  A type of solitude from the rest of the world.

I love how God chose this time of solitude to bring the gang together.  The Word, translated according to Diane Bailey says, that God brought them out in the desert and called them together for a project.

“While we are out here,” I can hear God say, “Let’s make a tabernacle.  You guys over there, you get the wood and make a box that we will cover in gold.  And you there, get your hammers and make some instruments for the temple.”

“And ladies, get out your needle and threads to make curtains and embroidery!  Let’s Go Team Israel!”

Are you in a season of change?  Has the Lord brought you into a place of isolation away from friends and hectic schedule?

Be encouraged, He will find a project for you to do while He begins to prepare you for your promised land, and as He reveals Himself to you.

“And He said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.’” Mark 6:31

I love it when He’s up to something new, although it’s hard to press on when you don’t know where you’re going!!

These shots are amazing, Di. You have a fabulous gift!

Wow Diane! I love what you are doing on your blog. Your words and pictures inspire me. And I too, know exactly what you mean about that quiet solitude. Recently I think it has become my favorite place because I really get to be with my Jesus. Seeing your soul sing with Jesus over here, and loving what I hear.

Diane, Your words touch me in the place I am now in my life….waiting for the transition that seems clear before me but having no clear path of how to move forward. Waiting for the Lord’s hand to clear the way is so hard but yet the only way. Your keen listening to what he is whispering into your spirit and sharing it feeds the hungry around you. Yum.

I love your photography and insight Diane, it’s so beautiful! This is a very timely word for me as I have been in this place of solitude for 2 1/2 years. God’s grace has perfectly sustained me and just like you said, He has given me more than one project to do while I wait to get out of this “lonely place” and into my promised land! It’s been a horrible wonderful experience being in this place of solitude. Thank you so much for the encouragement! God bless you abundantly always as you continue on in the journey He has for you!
    With love and gratitude,

Lori, I have been through this twice, and I know that God will give you encouragement through this. Remember, He is the one who knew from the beginning that it is not good for man (woman) to be alone. He will not let this last one minute longer that necessary. He knows how painful it is and would not allow this time were it not of great value to our lives in Him.

      Chin up, sister, chin up.
