Today I join the Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday with the prompt, Grow. Writing briefly from the overflow of the heart. For fun, for love of the sound of words, for play, for delight, for joy and celebration at the art of communication.
For only five short, bold, beautiful minutes. Unscripted and unedited. We just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. Won’t you join in the fun!
I love the trees that grow in our yard, especially in the fall when all the colors come together to bid summer, farewell. Each year the colors are different, sometimes more brown, or yellow, but this year the orange and reds came out more, thrilling me with jewel tones along my walk.
Their roots, I’ve been told, grow twice as deep as their heights. How strong they are to defy gravity and the elements year after year. Pressing their limbs upward, and swaying in the wind is their act of worship.
During the storms the trees are where the birds go for shelter. Little woven cups of twigs and threads can be seen from the ground.
More impressive still are squirrels with their nest being the largest of them all. Large trays of pine and branches cradle their young ones in the highest tree top, never fearing a fall. Trusting the trees to hold them safe.
We should grow more bird and squirrel like, resting peacefully in the hands of the Father, as the winds of this world blow.
